Daily Life... 01/28/2010

I would like to share a blog with you today. This was passed on to me by my dear friend Andrea Miller. THANK YOU!

The creator, Brooke Taylor, is a very creative woman. She shares many things from books to read, stories, recipes, parenting tips etc. But most recently, she has posted a story about EVERY DAY LIFE! Taking in the moments! (remember the activity link to refresh your mind on daily journaling and photo taking)

This is what Bonobo Kid is about. It's enjoying the days with your kiddos and being with them. Its about finding the little things you can do to be a parent, teacher, and friend to your children. It's about spending time with the ones you love the most and as well as those who love you the most!

HERE IS THE LINK:
http://www.brookesbabypage.blogspot.com/

So take some time. Enjoy the moment. Relax and be. Document the daily things that you and your family just DO. In the reality of things and the big picture of it all...that's what families really want to think back on.

We are getting ready for a FUN event night for the KIDDOS!
Picture
This is the most charming art studio. This is the Richfield Art Studio owned by Sarah Costic. The event is Friday, January 29th. It's full of fun for families. Kiddos will participate in a Bonobo Kid story time, make a craft and eat cake. Lynette Miller will teach a mini lesson on the watercycle.  Joanna Brown will be here too. She is a young (13 years old) entrepreneur! Her crafty (and I must say ADORABLE soaps) will be on display. There will be musicians as well!

ADDRESS: 3838 Brecksville Road
                 Richfield Ohio 44286

On a side note: The Bonobo Kid goodies are on the way! Stay tuned!

Bonobo Kid GOODIES are on the way...Stay tuned for items coming under the GOODIES!

Crayola Model Magic. This is truly science in a bag! You can find this almost anywhere. Target and JoAnn have quite a selection. Kiddos can do so much with this magic modeling clay. They can make and create! The modeling clay is safe and easy to clean up. It dries nicely when you want to preserve a finsihed product.

ZANEY BRAINY TIP: This is great to use with little ones to work on fine motor skills. Also, you can make new colors. Talk about colors and explore what colors make what when 'smooshed' together.

Use the clay to explore shapes!

HAVE FUN!

Making SNOW! 01/07/2010

Here in Ohio, we are getting lots of snow. The days are filled with being outside and then finding things to do inside. So today's ZANEY BRAINY fun tip: Make SNOW!

Now, this is not the real thing. The idea here is to take some household items and have your kiddo create and have fun.

YOU WILL NEED: Elmers liquid glue
                         Shaving Cream (any kind)

DIRECTIONS: Mix equal parts of glue and shaving cream.

DIALOGUE: Talk about taking these two items. Make PREDICTIONS about what will change? Will the shaving cream look the same? Will it feel the same?

Have your kiddo create an illustration that has a snow scene. The snow illustrations here are showing two different craft ideas:

In the first one, kids made an outline of a snowman. Then tearing pattern paper in small pieces, they glued and filled in the outlines. (WORKING ON MOTOR SKILLS, which is great for your preschooler -first grader). Then, "paint" the mixture of glue and shaving cream on areas to make it look like it's snowing.

Second, take about the seasons and how trees and our environment changes. Then using the mixture, on the WINTER season illustration make it snow...on the ground and tree.

We are enjoying the snow right down to making SNOWFLAKE cupcakes. Everyone needs a little fun and it seems like one little cupcake does the trick. So while it's cold outside, we worked on measurment skills and made cupcakes.

Be sure to have your word...Here are some kid-friendly words that have been shared:

respect, kindness, love, patience, fun, happiness, laugh, friendship, hugs, truth, compassion, giggle, smile.

Next, we will share some thing to do with the WORD! Have yours ready!

Welcome 2010!

One LITTLE word 12/28/2009

Just wanted to share something to start the year. This is a project. A very simple and amazing project that has been created by
                                    ALI EDWARDS.
Please go to
                   http://www.aliedwards.typepad.com

The project: ONE LITTE WORD.
It's that simple.
It's taking the time, to think about a word to live by, to celebrate, to hold dear to your heart. It's a word that will stay with you for the next year.

Welcome 2010.

Now, here's the catch...look at THE LIST of the words. (on the website) Review and talk about some of them with your child or children...yes, even the little kiddos.
http://aliedwards.typepad.com/_a_/2009/01/2009-words.html

Have your kiddo think of a word that means the most to him/her. Have him/her write the word using markers, crayons, or paint. Talk about the word.

Again, one WORD can mean so much...you will see!
